Silent No More: Why Vocalist Songwriters Must Speak Up and Fight for Fairness in the Music Industry.
The music industry is known for being tough, competitive, and sometimes even exploitative. Despite this, many vocalist songwriters continue to create and contribute to the industry. But why do they seem to be afraid to speak up and ask for what they are worth?
One reason is fear. The music industry is a massive machine, with powerful labels, executives, and lawyers calling the shots. It can be intimidating for individual creators to stand up to this behemoth. The fear of being blacklisted or not getting future work can be paralysing. Additionally, many vocalist songwriters may feel like they are replaceable and easily disposable, leading them to accept lower pay and unfavourable terms.
But the reality is that without the creators, the music industry would not exist. Vocalist songwriters are the lifeblood of the industry, and they should be valued and compensated accordingly. It’s time to stop being afraid and start demanding what we deserve.
Love Vocals in conjunction with Vocalist Songwriters Alliance (VSA) is one organisation that is fighting for fair compensation for creators in the music industry. They are working to change the system and make it more equitable for all creators. But we can’t do it alone.
We need all vocalist songwriters to come together and support us in our efforts. It’s time to unite and stand up for our craft and our worth. We must respect ourselves and our contributions to the industry, and demand that we are compensated fairly for our hard work.
It won’t be an easy fight, but it’s a necessary one. If we don’t demand change, nothing will change. We can’t be afraid to speak up and fight for what we deserve. Let’s join forces and put all shoulders to the wheel to turn the music industry in our direction.
Respect yourself, respect your craft, and demand fair compensation. Together, we can make a difference.
